Short Backswing Myth
Share
Nathalie Sheehan explains why the idea that you need a shorter, more controlled backswing to be consistent, is false. She then teaches how to make a longer, more powerful backswing through a couple key movements.

It would be nice to say which golf club you're using since I'm a beginner golfer
ok
thanks
Thanks!!!
love that drill
Follow through is very important for chip shot. Her instruction is simple, easy to remember. I will try it next time near a green.
I had a fairly short driver backswing in the past and hit quite well. About 240 to 250. I am 74. I lengthened the backswing at the start of this year fearing that I would flare it right or hook left since control would be compromised. I now hit 270 to 290 and just as straight as before. Her comment sure rang true for me.
I believe if you are coming back way past parallel at the top, that could be something that might need to be shortened. Some golfers have too short of a backswing but some do truly have too long of a backswing and have no idea where the ball is going. I've found out that reducing to parallel for driver and 3/4 for irons works pretty well for me.
Thank you for this. I am 79 years old and find my swing arc has gotten very narrow simply because I don't do as you suggested in this video. Tank yo!
hi Natalie,
This tip is really helpful for me because I struggle with being either
too far inside or two straight on my backswing.
Is your angle about 30degrees to the right?
Thank you
